World Spay Day

                   Happy World Spay Day everybody!

Why is it important to spay or neuter my pet?
  • Because around 5 million to 8 million animals are         euthanized each year due to lack of homes.
  • The number one cause of death for companion animals is euthanasia.
  • Cats can have can have three litters of kittens a year.
  • Neutering will reduce the instinct to roam in cats.
  • Neutering your cat will stop him from spraying the house.
  • The cost of spaying or neutering a pet is less than the cost of raising puppies or kittens for a year.
  • There are around 70 million stray cats in the United States which you can help prevent by spaying or neutering your pet.

4-H Round up

Bobwhite quail

Recently, I placed 1st place at Round up. If you are wondering what Round up is, it is a 4-H contest which is a lot like a talent show. You can also talk about a topic which you are passionate about. This year, I talked about how to raise quail. At the end of my speech, I showed some quail taking a dust bath; this helps get rid of bugs. Now I am able to go to district with this competition. I had great help in preparing the speech. Mom and my great uncle proofread my speech and my dad helped me with my props. Without these peoples' help I wouldn't have done as well.

Helpful tidbits about raising quail;
  • If they fight put a tomato in their pen to distract them.
  • Let them have dirt in pen.
  • Give Bobwhites tall long pen so they can fly.
  • Keep Coturnix quail males away from each other

Lego store

At the North Park Mall in Dallas, Texas, they have a big Lego store which has all kinds of Chima, Creator, houses, Star Wars, and Lego City sets. My favorite part about the store is they have a table where you can create you own Lego mini figures. Another thing I like about the store, is they have Lego's on display. I like this since you can see what the Lego you will purchase actually look like when they are built. My favorite Lego they had for sale was the Lego Townhall. I really enjoyed going and would recommend going there.

Gem and Mineral Show

A few days ago my family and I went to a  Gem and Mineral show in Tyler, Texas. It was really fascinating my favorite part was the table of rocks which looked like food. If you guessed which one was edible you could get to eat it. You could also get  a micro diamond. The man found the mini diamonds in ant hills. The ants had brought them out of the ground and laid them on the top of the ant hill so they wouldn't be in the ants way.  The Gem and Mineral show also, had a florescent rock  display, silent auction, and numerous booths selling rocks. At the silent auction I bought a fossil of  a huge snail. one of the most interesting facts I learned was that the Texas state fossil was  fossilized palm wood. Fossilized palm wood has a bunch of tiny, narrow tubes in it caused my the fiber in the wood. I had a great time and am looking forward to going again.
