wildlife camera

So, my Dad got a game camera for his birthday. A wildlife camera or a  game camera is like a camera but you can mount it on a tree. It has a motion sensor that takes pictures when things move in front of it. To take more pictures of animals, we dug a hole in the ground and filled it with dried corn and covered it back up. That is how we got all of our pictures except the coyotes and the buzzards. We used a different bait for them. So far we have seen several squirrels, lots of buzzards, one or two coyotes, five raccoon, three deer, and around ten feral hogs. The hogs have torn up our Saint Augustine.  They seem to know when Dad is working and when he is not.

The wind in the willows

I've been reading a book lately called the Wind in the Willows.  The book is about a Toad who gets into trouble such as robbing a car, breaking out of prison, he stole a horse and money plus more.  His best friends try to bail him out of all his problems.  The main characters are: Toad, Rat, Mole, and Badger.  This book teaches that his friends still like him even when he's in trouble.  I would rate it eight stars out of ten because it could have been a little more educational.  This book is for you if you like animals or adventure stories.

My Dad had found a real mole on our property and I thought I could share some of the pictures with my viewers.

Here are some fact I learned about moles.
  • Moles  are small  mammals with means they give milk to there young.
  • Moles have soft velvety like fur.
  • Moles have tiny almost invisible ears and eyes they are blind to the light of day but can see underground.
  • They have short but powerful paws made for digging.
  • Moles are found in America, Asia and Europe.
         Thanks for viewing,
           Christopher

My sister also has a blog, check it out sometime: http://lac998.blogspot.com/

Fishing

A couple of days ago, my Dad, brother, sister and I went fishing in our pond.
The fishing lures we used were mostly top water bait.
Yet despite the drought in Texas we  still were able to catch: two eating size catfish.  My Dad caught one
and my sister caught the other one.
My little  brother got a little perch and he also reeled     in some bass.
And last but not least I caught two bass and a
            small catfish.
We ate the biggest two catfish.
Thanks dad for helping with unhooking the fish.
Also, thanks Mom for cooking the fish.

   Thanks for reading ,

Our poultry pets

As you might know, we are not good at raising fowl (our dogs murdered 21pullets and we had a fowl play with some broilers). But still we came home from an auction with some Buff Orpington chickens.  Since we already had supplies from our old chickens that didn't make it. In case you don't know what kind of things you need for raising chickens it includes: water (they have to drink too), chicken or poultry feed, cage or pen of some sort, food and water dishes, and heat lamps (for in the winter). Oh you will also need chickens! Now back to the chickens, the ones we got were two boys called roosters and four girls a.k.a hens.
                                                    Thats all for the chickens

Now I'll tell you about some more of our feathered friends. I'ld like to introduce you to our ducks. We got them from the same lady we got the cows from. But I'm not sure what breed they are. We had fifteen but one of them went missing.  I  have no idea where it went. They are very low maintnence. The only things they need are water such as a pond or a lake(they love to swim). Also, they need feed which is the same kind of feed as the chickens: chicken or poultry feed. That finishes this post up. Thanks for reading.

Our cows and calf

Opie, you haven't finished your milk.  We can't put it back in the cow, you know.
~From The Andy Griffith Show

These are our Beef master cows,

Heidi is the solid black one, she normally has twins. But this year she didn't, she had a black calf named Jessica.  Heidi is affectionate and will eat ranch cubes out of your hand.  She is fearless of people but she sometimes is bossy.
The white faced is Opal, she is friendly and bold.  She had a calf August 23, sadly it passed away the
next morning.  She will also eat ranch cubes out of your hand.  She's has loose stubs for horns those are called floaters.
Lacy is the light brown one, she had her calf named Helen on August 3rd 2011.  She is friendly and will eat out of your hand.  Over all she is a good cow and full of energy.
The dark brown and white one is Crystal.  She is a little skittish but lately she has been coming closer. We are waiting on her to have her calf.
The little dark brown calf's name is Helen her mom is Lacy.
We recently got a black and white steer, his name is Ferdinand.  He will follow you around like a big dog, but he is a little bit bossy.
It  has been a very fun to own cattle but it has been hard too.

Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoy this post,

My 1st horse

Look closer, Benny is sticking his tongue.
This is Benny, he's a Welsh Quarter horse and he is around twenty years young. He is very gentle and wants to please. But around food (apples and sweet feed) he tries to chase the donkey away.  He is a pleasure to ride.  I've been riding him in a round pen. So I'm looking forward to ride Benny on our land.

A few facts about the breed

* Quarter horses got their name because they almost
      always win Quarter mile races.

* The breed started as part Thoroughbred and part
       Chickasaw pony.

* The Thoroughbred equals speed and stamina, while
the Chickasaw pony is surefooted and a good
              cow pony.
*The Quarter horse was born for two purposes to
     work & to race.

*  Thoroughbreds almost  put the Quarter horse out
of racing until Quarter horses came to cattle
ranching states and the cowboys loved them

* But what about there racing career? Was it
gone? No!  Cattle men need entertainment too
so they started rodeos and quarter mile races.
