Project Show

Howdy!  Sorry I haven`t wrote in a long time, but I have been busy with the County Livestock Show.  I entered a dinosaur, tank, oatmeal raisin cookies, bird feeder, cranberry nut bread, divinity, Easter cupcakes, bug collection, washer pitching game, dog pillow, dog photo and a stamp collection. I won 12 blue ribbons and 3 best of section ribbons.  I also showed Castor Mini Rex rabbits, a senior doe and a doe with litter.  I won third place for doe and litter and fifth place for senior doe.  While we were getting ready to take our rabbits home someone gave us a free buck Californian rabbit.  Later, we bought two Californian does from another person.  I had a great time.  Below are some pictures from the show:

Dragon Fruit

This is a Pitaya fruit, commonly known as dragon fruit.  My Dad ate it when he went to Malaysia.  When he saw it at the store, he got some for us to try. It  tasted a lot like a kiwi - but sweeter. The fruit of a pitaya comes from a cactus!

Snake

Today my little brother saw a snake in our pond.  It was black with a zig-zag pattern. I think it was a water moccasin.  I shot at it several times with my BB gun.  When I was cocking the gun, the butt of the gun busted my lip. I kept on firing but it swam away. Here are some pictures, my Mom took.

UPDATE:    Dad shot it the next day with his .22 rifle.  It was actually 4 foot long but looked shorter in the water.

Tracks

My mom and I found some neat animal tracks.  I think they are raccoon, but they might be an opossum`s tracks. So I decided to look the tracks up. Now I`m almost 100 percent sure it was a raccoon track.  Here is a picture.

Garden

A few days ago my family and I planted a spring garden.  We planted bell peppers, squash, tomatoes, watermelons, cantaloupe, collards  greens, jalapeno peppers, zucchini, and string beans plants.  We already had planted broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, purple cabbage, snow peas, and onions for winter. Last but not least we also planted some fruit trees. Below are some pictures from last year.

Cardinals

Here are a few facts about Northern Cardinals
  1. The cardinal is the only red bird in the eastern climate that has a crest.
  2. A young cardinal has a dusty beak.
  3. Mother cardinals are light brown with a crest and red beak.
  4. The cardinal is the state bird of 7 states, more than any other bird.
  5. Cardinals like to drink maple sap from holes made by other birds.
  6. They eat grain, fruit, bugs, corn, and seeds.  Our's love black oil sunflower seeds.

    Broken Elbow

On March 2, my siblings and I were playing in the woods.  My little brother fell on a tree stump and broke his elbow.  We took him to the emergency room, after a long wait in the waiting room, the Doctor took us and checked my brother's x-rays.  Then a nurse wrapped it up with a splint and gauze, then put it in a sling.

We went in the emergency room around 6:30pm and got out just before midnight.  My little brother really wanted ice cream so we got him some from the only store open.  On March 8, he went to a specialist and got a blue cast. Luckily, he only has to wear the cast 3 weeks.  Here is a picture of the splint and gauze.

    Roping

I`m so excited because I`m learning how to rope.  A friend of ours is teaching me how.  First he`s teaching me with a hula hoop, you swing it around your head like you would the lasso.  I practice 100 times a day, it`s a little tricky but lots of fun.  Here is a picture of my rope (left) and the hula hoop (right).

    Piano lessons

I take piano lessons from a really nice lady at our church.  I`m going to play the 1st measure of Go Down Moses.

I have finished the rest of this song.   I have been learning some new songs now called: New London Bridge and March on.
