Military Living History Field Trip

replica of a Humvee
My mom is the awesome field trip coordinator for a Christian homeschool group we are in called  Tyler Area Christian Homeschool Educators (TACHE for short).  She had organized a field trip to a ranch owned by Tom Townsend.  Mr. Townsend is an author and a mini cattle rancher; while he also helps supply combat vehicles and artillery for movies.  He had  all kinds of army trucks and jeeps.   When we first got to toy land (that is what he called his ranch) Mr. Townsend was in a metal building that he stored most of his vehicles in he also kept some military equipment there also. He let us look around in the building while we waited for more people to arrive.  Then he told us about each of the  combat vehicles, equipment ,and models. Then at the end we got to ride in a real Diamond Reo 2 1/2 ton truck that had been used during
World War II.  I had a great time and would recommend it

v

  • This is my favorite cookie recipe. Try it out.

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup butter, softened
    • 2/3 cup white sugar
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
    • 1 cup chopped pecans
    • 1 (9 ounce) bag milk chocolate candy kisses
    • 1/3 cup confectioners' sugar for decoration

Directions

Recipe Yield 4 1/2 dozen
  1. In a medium bowl, cream together the butter and sugar. Stir in the vanilla. Combine the flour and cocoa, add to the flour mixture, mix until all of the flour is absorbed. Finally, stir in the pecans. Cover and refrigerate dough for at least 1 hour.
  2. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Unwrap chocolate kisses. Mold about 1 tablespoon of dough around each chocolate kiss. Place 1 1/2 inches apart onto an ungreased cookie sheet.
  3. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes in the preheated oven, or until set. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely. Roll cooled cookies in confectioners' sugar

wildlife camera

So, my Dad got a game camera for his birthday. A wildlife camera or a  game camera is like a camera but you can mount it on a tree. It has a motion sensor that takes pictures when things move in front of it. To take more pictures of animals, we dug a hole in the ground and filled it with dried corn and covered it back up. That is how we got all of our pictures except the coyotes and the buzzards. We used a different bait for them. So far we have seen several squirrels, lots of buzzards, one or two coyotes, five raccoon, three deer, and around ten feral hogs. The hogs have torn up our Saint Augustine.  They seem to know when Dad is working and when he is not.

The wind in the willows

I've been reading a book lately called the Wind in the Willows.  The book is about a Toad who gets into trouble such as robbing a car, breaking out of prison, he stole a horse and money plus more.  His best friends try to bail him out of all his problems.  The main characters are: Toad, Rat, Mole, and Badger.  This book teaches that his friends still like him even when he's in trouble.  I would rate it eight stars out of ten because it could have been a little more educational.  This book is for you if you like animals or adventure stories.

My Dad had found a real mole on our property and I thought I could share some of the pictures with my viewers.

Here are some fact I learned about moles.
  • Moles  are small  mammals with means they give milk to there young.
  • Moles have soft velvety like fur.
  • Moles have tiny almost invisible ears and eyes they are blind to the light of day but can see underground.
  • They have short but powerful paws made for digging.
  • Moles are found in America, Asia and Europe.
         Thanks for viewing,
           Christopher

My sister also has a blog, check it out sometime: http://lac998.blogspot.com/

Fishing

A couple of days ago, my Dad, brother, sister and I went fishing in our pond.
The fishing lures we used were mostly top water bait.
Yet despite the drought in Texas we  still were able to catch: two eating size catfish.  My Dad caught one
and my sister caught the other one.
My little  brother got a little perch and he also reeled     in some bass.
And last but not least I caught two bass and a
            small catfish.
We ate the biggest two catfish.
Thanks dad for helping with unhooking the fish.
Also, thanks Mom for cooking the fish.

   Thanks for reading ,
                                       Christopher
